Russia Spain Spain book German date

Jun 27th, 2008 :: Lead Story, Russia, Spain

Spain will take on Germany in the Euro 2008 final in Vienna after a convincing 3-0 win over Russia in the semi-final.

Spain had beaten Russia 4-1 in the group stages, and their class shone again as they contained the Russian threat of Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlyuchenko and broke through the Russian defence with their intricate passing.

Andrés Iniesta’s deflected shot found its way through to Xavi, who toe-poked the ball home from 6 yards.

Substitute Daniel Guiza then doubled Spain’s lead, lobbing the ball over Akinfeev after being put through by Cesc Fabregas.

With Russia all but deflated after that, David Silva put the final nail in the coffin by converting Fabregas’ cross with 9 minutes left.
