Holland Romania Holland 2 - 0 Romania

Jun 18th, 2008 :: Holland, Romania

Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie ensured Holland a 100 per cent record in the group stages of Euro 2008 after they both scored in the 2-0 victory against Romania.

Although Marco van Basten made wholesale changes to his team, having secured a place in the quarter-finals and the top spot of the group, Romania were never about to roll over.

Victor Piturca’s men turned in a solid performance by frustrating the Dutch for the majority of the first-half, with Arjen Robben wasting the best of Holland’s rare opportunites.

Holland came back stronger after the break, and took the lead nine minutes later when when Huntelaar diverted a low cross from the right into the bottom corner.

Romania, aware of events elsewhere as Italy defeated France, appeared crestfallen and never looked like getting back into the game.

The Romanians appear to have resigned to their fate after they conceded a second with three minutes left when Van Persie smashed an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net past a stranded Bogdan Lobont.
